OPENING DATE SCHEDULED FOR SPRING, 2009!!!
The softball and baseball programs in the
Syracuse area have shown tremendous growth
in the last ten years. Each year over 25
teams play on 2 ˝ fields. In early 2007,
the Syracuse City Council agreed to make a
complex a reality. The allowable
budget for the Syracuse Sports Complex does
not cover each item in the “master plan.”
The “master plan” of the
Syracuse Sports Complex calls for a premier
facility to be used by people of all ages! It
will consist of 3 softball/youth baseball
fields with 300’ fencing. One of these fields
will be used by the Syracuse High School team
for their fall softball season. The fourth
field is for the Legion team. It will have
grass infield, below ground dugouts, bull
pens, and batting cages. The building in the
middle of the four fields will house
concessions, restrooms, press box, and
storage. The playground equipment nearby will
be covered with netting so the younger fans
won’t be troubled by foul balls. The main
focus will be on these areas of the complex.
In
addition to the ballfields, the master plan
includes a plethora of other fun-filled items
as funding is available. Four
picnic shelters will be used by ball teams,
families, reunions, meetings, picnics, and
much more. A 360’x 600’ multi-purpose area
has room for four practice fields with back
stops at the corners, little league football,
and a possible new soccer league. A sand
volleyball court and basketball court are
offered for leagues, tournaments, practice, or
fun. A bike/walk path connects the entire
complex, and can be used to get from one place
to another or for exercise. Parking will be
plentiful with a minimum of 532 stalls and
maximum of 1027 stalls.
This
complex is not only intended for area youth,
but also district and state competitions. If
Syracuse hosts a tournament with 24 teams,
that amounts to a possibility of 288 families
being in Syracuse on one weekend of the
summer. In addition to softball tournaments,
we can host summer basketball tournaments,
sand volleyball tournaments, and family
reunions in the shelters. It will be an
attraction that will promote local commerce.
